Turkey will host its first Formula One Grand Prix this weekend, introducing a new country and circuit to the sport of motor racing. The 5.340 kilometre (3.318 mile) Istanbul Speed Park is located 80 kilometres (50 miles) to the east of the city, on the Asian side of the Bosphorus. Team McLaren Mercedes have arrived in Turkey in second position in the constructors' championship with 105 points, just 12 points off current leaders Renault. Significant leadKimi Raikkonen remains second in the drivers' world championship, 26 points adrift of Renault's Fernando Alonso, but McLaren have shown consistently that they have the quickest car, only to be let down all too often by a lack of reliability."Of course, Renault have a significant lead in the drivers' championship and we're under no illusions that that's a better place to be than that of the pursuer. We know it's a very difficult mountain to climb, as regards contending the drivers' championship. "But, nevertheless, we're going to give it our best shot. We go to each and every race with the clear objective of winning it and the race in Turkey is not going to be an exception to that rule," said Ron Dennis, CEO and Chairman of McLaren Group.Fifth winIt is all set up for another thrilling weekend of Formula One motor racing with most of the focus on whether or not Raikkonen can further reduce the lead that Alonso enjoys at the top of the drivers' standings. McLaren will be looking for another fast drive from the Finn, but they also know that reliability will be key, if Raikkonen is to have every chance of chalking up his fifth win of the season at the first-ever Turkish Grand Prix.
