Trier:

Sebastien Loeb extended his lead in the 2004 World Rally Championships on Sunday with victory in the Rally of Germany. This was Loeb's third straight win in the event. The Frenchman's total time of 4 hours 1 minute 57 seconds proved more than enough to hold off the challenge of Francois Duval's Ford and Citroen teammate Carlos Sainz. Loeb now has 76 points in the standings, 19 ahead of Estonia's Markko Martin who finished fourth, 20 ahead of Sainz and 22 in front of current world champion Petter Solberg. With just six events left on the calendar, Loeb is now the hottest of favourites to capture his first world championship crown. (AP)
