Ajaccio, Corsica: Citroen's Sebastien Loeb remains on course to celebrate his first world title after the first leg of the French rally, held on the island of Corsica, on Friday. The Frenchman ended the day in third place, enough to take the title if he is still in that position on Sunday afternoon. Loeb needs just five points from the season's final three rounds and started the day playing safe on the winding Corsican mountain roads, knowing the crown could also be his at any minute were his sole rival, Petter Solberg, to retire. Belgium's Francois Duval holds the overnight lead ahead of his Ford colleague Markko Martin of Estonia.
