Sepang: India's first Formula One driver Narain Karthikeyan finished 17th in the first qualifying for the Malaysian Grand Prix which kicks off on Sunday at the Sepang circuit. Team Renault were able to celebrate first and third place in qualifying with Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella trading places from their podium performances in Australia two weeks ago. Alonso clocked the day's fastest time, finishing narrowly ahead of Toyota's Jarno Trulli. Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, finished 12th, two places ahead of team mate Rubens Barrichello. The final grid position would be decided after the second qualifying on Sunday morning before the start of the final race later in the afternoon.
