Karthikeyan finishes 17th in Monaco

Monaco:

Narain Karthikeyan got a first hand experience of street car racing and found the Monte Carlo circuit a bigger challenge than he expected and finished 17th in the first qualifying in Monaco today. Finn Kimi Raikkonen in a McLaren was the fastest, followed by Renault's Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber of BMW Williams ahead of Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix. Karthikeyan timed 1 minute and 19.474 seconds to finish once again behind his Jordan teammate Tiago Monteiro of Portugal (1m:19.408s). Karthikeyan, who was driving on the Monaco for the first time, said the track was very difficult for him to get familiarised with in such a short time. The 28-year-old said his team would concentrate on finishing the race rather than the timing, which was of no importance for them as per their strategy. (PTI)
