Silverstone:

Jenson Button of BAR-Honda and Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren-Mercedes turned the top times among regular drivers in Friday's first practice session for the British Grand Prix. The two quickest times overall went to McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa and Ricardo Zonta, a test driver for Toyota. Friday's first session comes a day after four terrorist bombs killed more than 50 people in central London. Officials at the race circuit, located about an hour north of the British capital, said Sunday's race would be marked by a minute of silence at the start. Button, a British driver still looking for his first victory in F1, clocked 1 minute, 20.211 seconds, followed by Raikkonen in 1:20.411. De la Rosa was quickest in 1:19.205, with Zonta just behind in 1:20.139. Test drivers are allowed to drive Friday, but do not participate in Saturday qualifying or Sunday's race. Raikkonen is on a roll. The Finn has won three of the last six races to close in on season points leader Fernando Alonso of Renault. Alonso has 69 points, followed by Raikkonen (45) and seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher (40) of Ferrari. The three finished in that order in last weekend's French Grand Prix. Schumacher, who is rising in the overall standings, has been on the podium in the last three races, including a victory on June 19 in Indianapolis. Only six of 20 drivers raced after seven teams running Michelin tires refused to run because of concerns over tyre safety. Schumacher had the seventh-quickest time with 1:21.453. He has won two of the last three British Grand Prix races. Alonso did not run in Friday's first session. He has won three of the first four races, but has faded slightly with two victories in the last six. (AP)
