Yokohama F Marinos of Japan thrashed Persik Kediri of Indonesia 4-1 in a group G, AFC Champions League match in Indonesia on Wednesday. Only a handful of Yokohama Marinos fans were present to cheer their team as they took on Indonesia's domestic league champions Persik Kediri. Yokohama needed a goal rush against Kediri to have any chance of advancing to the quarter-final stages of the AFC Champions League and they were hoping that their attack, led by Korean World Cup star Ahn Jung Hwan, would see them through. Perfect startThey made the perfect start when in the very first minute of the match Antonio Dutra curled in a left footer into the top of the net to make it 1-0 to Yokohama. Yokohama doubled their lead in the 9th minute when star forward Ahn Jung Hwan tapped in a lovely cross from the right. In the 24th minute, another great cross from the right flank and Tatsuhiko Kubo jumped to head in the third goal for Yokohama. The Japanese team were now on course for the minimum of five goals they needed to go ahead of Korean side Seongnam Ilhwa. Skipper Yoo Sang Chul made it 4-0,a minute before half time, and Marinos looked set for more in the second half. Torrential rain Torrential rain made the pitch heavy and the game dropped to mediocre standards in the second half. In the 70th minute, a massive fight broke out between the two teams when (14) Siswantoro uppended (22) Yuji Nakazawa. Players from both the teams, officials and referees took part in the ugly fighting in the middle. After a minute of the brawl, marching orders were given to Daisuke Sakata of Yokohama and Kusnul Yuli Kurniawan of Persik. The fight seemed to upset Yokohama more than Persik and the home side even pulled a goal back in the 85th minute. Berta Yuana Putra headed in a cross from close range. Despite Yokohama's win, the Japanese team failed to advance to the quarter-final stage. In another result, Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma beat Vietnamese side Binh Dinh 3-1 on Friday to top group G and reach the quarter-finals. (AP)
