Madrid:

Real Madrid central defender Jonathan Woodgate said he has overcome his injury problems and will be ready for the start of preseason training on July 12.Woodgate's left thigh injuries have restricted him to just 14 games for Madrid in all competitions since joining from Newcastle in August 2004."I can't wait for the 12th to arrive so I can run with the others, feel part of the team and work hard to show those who doubt me that I'm ready for the new season," Woodgate was quoted as saying by sports daily As on Sunday. The 26-year-old England international was forced to wait 13 months before making an ill-starred Spanish league debut against Athletic Bilbao last September. He scored an own goal and was sent off.Woodgate then had two more lengthy spells on the sidelines through injury, leading to a recent report that Madrid had lost patience and was preparing to offload him."No one in the club has been in touch to say they don't want me so it's all someone's invention. I want to do well at Madrid. Nothing would make me happier than to wear the white shirt again at the Bernabeu," said Woodgate, who last played in Madrid's Champions League defeat by Arsenal on February 21.Woodgate also said he was pleased with new Madrid president Ramon Calderon's choice of Fabio Capello as coach."I love physical effort and I've been told Capello will be really demanding from the first day. Great!" the defender said. (AP)
