Cardiff:

Wales and Paraguay drew 0-0 in a friendly at Millenium Stadium on Wednesday. Only a handful of outstanding stops by Welsh goalkeepers Paul Jones and Lewis Price saved the hosts against the World Cup-bound South Americans. Price, who came on for Jones in the 66th minute, made an outstanding save on substitute Jose Cardozo's shot in the penalty area in the 87th. Saved shots Wales had a chance in the 90th, but James Collins' free kick from outside the box went over the bar. Paraguay had the best chances - striker Nelson Haedo-Valdez having two shots saved by Jones. Haedo-Valdez showed a great first touch in collecting a pass from 40 yards in the 14th minute, chesting it softly before volleying on goal - but Jones made a leaping save to his right. Close range Wales responded in the 21st minute as Craig Bellamy, who caused the most problems for Paraguay, went clear on goal, but saw his weak curled shot saved by goalkeeper Justin Villars. Valdez was again denied in the 24th minute as he cut past two Welsh defenders only for Jones to make a sprawling save at close range. Jones then made a diving save with his arm from Denis Caniza on the rebound. Deft pass Wales didn't really threaten until the 63rd minute when a deft no-look back pass from Ryan Giggs sent Bellamy through. In the 63rd minute, Jones made an outstanding reaction save to Carlos Paredes' volley in the box. Teenage defender Lewin Nyatanga, who became Wales' youngest international at 17 years and 195 days, played well in his first start and was among seven players under 22 who started for the hosts.
