Venezuela, Colombia draw 1-1

Jesus Gomez and Elkin Soto both scored goals as Venezuela and Colombia played to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match on Wednesday.

Jesus Gomez and Elkin Soto both scored goals as Venezuela and Colombia played to a 1-1 draw in a friendly match on Wednesday. Gomez scored in the 48th minute off a cross from Juan Arango, who plays for Spain's Mallorca, before thousands of fans at Jose Encarnacion Romero stadium in the western city of Maracaibo. Soto, who also plays for Colombia's Once Caldas, tied the match in the 70th with a blast into the upper left corner. "The young guys that are on the team, and played in this match did very well," Arango said. "We hope it continues this way". Colombia and Venezuela both failed to qualify for the World Cup in Germany. Venezuela hosts the Copa America next year. (AP)
