Miguel Angel Angulo scored for struggling Valencia as the defending champions drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid on in the Spanish league. Angulo's 64th minute goal came when Atletico goalkeeper Leo Franco committed himself outside the penalty area and failed to clear. 10-man Atletico came back in the 79th minute thanks to superb individual goal by striker Fernando Torres. Valencia remain third in the standings on 15 points, one ahead of Atletico, but both sides could find themselves overhauled by the chasing pack of five teams who have still to play this weekend. Claudio Ranieri's Valencia received an early setback when inspirational playmaker Pablo Aimar was forced off the pitch with less than two minutes on the clock after receiving a blow to his face in an accidental clash with defender Pablo Ibanez. The injury appeared to affect both teams and the game only really sparked into life after Miguel Angel Angulo put Valencia ahead midway through the second half. A deep cross found Marco Di Vaio in space. His shot was kicked off the line by a defender only for Angulo to slot the ball into the empty net. Although they were reduced to 10 men with the dismissal of forward Veljko Paunovic five minutes later with a second yellow card, Atletico grabbed a point when striker Fernando Torres drilled home from the edge of the area after wrong-footing the Valencia defence. Torres' one-touch control of a long pass by Argentina international midfielder Diego Simeone gave him enough time to sidestep the Valencia defence and beat Santiago Canizares for the equaliser. Ruben Baraja had the best chance in the dying minutes for the winning score - a free-kick which sailed over the wall and hit the bar. The match was Valencia's seventh without a win, and is likely to add to the pressure on Ranieri after Wednesday's humiliating King's Cup loss to second division Lleida. Valencia lie in third place with 15 points - eight behind leaders Barcelona. Atletico Madrid remain just a point behind in fourth. (AP)
