Melbourne: There's just the last spot for the 2002 World Cup that's left to be decided and battling it out for position number 32 are Australia and Uruguay in a two leg playoff. The first game was today in Melbourne. Australia are attempting to make it to the World Cup for first time since 1974 and two time champions Uruguay haven't been there since 1990. There was plenty of home support for the Australia team when they took on Uruguay. The home side almost made the perfect start, Craig Moore's header off a corner hitting the top of the cross bar after just three minutes. Uruguay had to wait till the 50th minute for their first chance, but Gonzalo De Los Santos failed to find the target with this header. In the 69th minute and a good cross by Leeds united striker Harry Kewell found substitute Paul Agostino, who managed to beat the Uruguay keeper but not the post. The game looked like it was heading for a goalless draw. But with just over 10 minutes remaining Agostino, was fouled in the area and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. Kevin Muscat calmly stroked the ball home to give Australia the lead after 79 minutes. The Australian team celebrating their one nil, they now travel to Uruguay for the 2nd leg on November 25.
