London:

Britain's latest football prodigy isn't a teenager but a three-year-old toddler.

Charlie Edwards only turned three in February and already he has great balance, co-ordination and a sweet left foot. His father Rick says his son showed his natural ability from the day he could walk.

"Since he could walk, thirteen to eighteen months old, what you see now he could do then, but he was just a smaller version. The power was there, the coordination was there which is important and it's just taken off," said Rick Edwards, Charlie Edward's father.

He's too young for school and his playgroup doesn't play competitively, but already he's a star in the making at the football schools he trains with.

"He's twice if not three times his age limit. He's three and he has played competitive matches in holiday course that we run with seven and eight year olds," said Steve Hodgson, football coach.

"You know it's just a bit of the learning and the discipline side of things at the minute, trying to get him under control. Other than that he's very competitive, a very good lad," Hodgson added.

Charlie lives near the plush houses of the country's top players, but so far he's keeping his eye on the ball and isn't keen on a glamorous other half to tend to his grazed knees.
