London: Tottenham Hotspur beat Derby County 3-1 in the English Premiership on Monday, a result which moved Spurs up to 12th in the table and left Derby marooned back in 18th place. An early goal by Les Ferdinand was cancelled out by Fabrizio Ravanelli before Christian Ziege restored Tottenham's lead just before half-time. Gustavo Poyet made it 3-1 in injury time to give his side only their second win at home this season and consign Derby to their fifth consecutive defeat. Tottenham took the lead in the 10th minute, after a nice cross in from Christian Ziege, found Les Ferdinand, who powered the ball past derby's keeper. Derby managed to level the match five minutes later as Fabrizio Ravanelli slid a low shot beyond Neil Sullivan and just inside the far post for his fifth goal in nine games. Tottenham though took the lead once again five minutes before the break. Tottenham had to wait till the 67th minute before again coming close. But Taricco took too long as the Derby defence managed to pull off a crucial save from the six-yard line. Substitute Sergei Rebrov who came on in the 86th minute, took a shot at goal, but it was well saved by the Derby keeper. And then in injury time, the Spurs scored the final goal, after a mistake by Mawene saw the ball taken by Poyet, who chipped it from 25 yards only to see it sail over the Derby keeper and into the back of the net as Tottenham won the match 3-1.
