The National Football League comes to an end on Saturday with the top three teams, Goa's Sporting Clube, Dempo and Kolkata's East Bengal vying for the title. On Monday, a goal from East Bengal's Syed Rahim Nabi against Dempo kept the three times champions in the race for the 9th National football League. The Kolkata giants went onto win 2-1. Meanwhile, Sporting Clube, who have been in existence for only two years and now stand on the verge of history. A win on Saturday against Mumbai's Mahindra United will give them their maiden NFL title, and make them just the second club from India's west coast to win the title after Salgaocar in 1999. Points tally After 21 rounds, Sporting have 45 points from their 21 games and have a healthy goal difference of plus 25. Dempo are a point behind, while East Bengal are in third place. Dempo will probably be cursing their luck for the chances that they missed on Monday against East Bengal. But they do have the easiest of all the three encounters against Kolkata's Tollygunge, who have already been relegated.
