Toluca:
Carlos Esquivel scored twice to give Toluca a 2-0 victory over defending champion Saprissa in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals on Wednesday. The Red Devils, who won the Mexican league last year, dominated the match from the beginning, controlling the midfield and penetrating the Costa Rican side's defence on both wings. Esquivel scored his first goal in the 22nd minute by volleying a ball off a Saprissa defender into the right corner of the net. His second goal came in the 62nd minute when he received a back pass from Uruguayan Vicente Sanchez and knocked it in off the right post. Saprissa only threatened once in the match, when Alonso Solis launched a free kick that passed close to the goal mouth in the 26th minute. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
