Kuala Lumpur:

Philippines beat East Timor 2-1 in a Tiger Cup Group B match on Tuesday. This was the Philippines' first-ever victory in the Tiger Cup since the tournament's inception in 1996 and denied tiny East Timor their maiden international victory. Former Benfica forward Jose Luis's Timor side had failed to score so far in their Tiger Cup debut. But Timor changed all that after a scoreless first-half, when Janurario Do Rego looped his free kick past Casas to make it 1-0 in the 59th minute. The Philippines finally got on the scoreboard in the 89th minute when substitute Emilio Caligdong broke through the Timorese defence to score the equaliser. East Timor would have been happy with the draw, but Emilio Caligdong struck again with just seconds left in injury time. (AP)
