Carlos Tevez is being rested as Corinthians play Marilia in the Sao Paulo state championship on Sunday. The rest for Tevez comes after touring with the Argentine national team earlier in the week. The striker arrived in Brazil on Friday, two days after scoring a goal in Argentina's 3-2 loss to Croatia in a friendly in Switzerland. Coach Antonio Lopes also decided to rest defender Gustavo Nery and midfielder Ricardinho, who helped Brazil beat Russia 1-0 in Moscow and also arrived late, for the match at Pacaembu stadium. Missing in action This will be the third consecutive match Tevez will sit out. He has already missed Corinthians' 4-1 win over Santo Andre on February 25, and the team's 3-2 victory against Ituano last Thursday. Tevez had returned to Argentina to join the national team and take care of personal problems after Corinthians' 2-2 draw against Chile's Universidad Catolica on February 22 in the Copa Libertadores. The Argentine star, who has scored six goals this season, was Corinthians' top acquisition last year. He led the club to its fourth Brazilian league title and was named the competition's best player. Corinthians is fourth in the 20-team Sao Paulo state championship with 24 points from 12 matches. (AP)
