Stuttgart is sending striker Jon Dahl Tomasson to Villarreal on loan until the end of the season. The clubs announced the deal Wednesday, with Villarreal saying it will hold an option to make Tomasson's move permanent in June. The 30-year-old Denmark international signed for Stuttgart in 2005 but has been unable to secure a place in the starting lineup this season. Tomasson is the second player to join Villarreal during January's transfer window. The other was Chile midfielder Matias Fernandez, who previously played for Colo Colo. Tomasson helped Feyenoord win the UEFA Cup in 2002 and AC Milan the Champions League the following year. He also played as a substitute in Milan's defeat on penalties against Liverpool in the 2005 Champions League final. Villarreal has been seeking reinforcements during the January transfer window after struggling to recapture its form of last season, when it reached the Champions League semifinals. The team is in 11th place in the Spanish league and was recently eliminated from the Copa del Rey by second-division Valladolid.
