Madrid: Valencia beat crosstown rival Levante 3-0 in the Spanish league on Saturday. Hugo Viana, Fernando Morientes and Roberto Ayala scored as Valencia moved up to third place in the standings with 33 points, four behind leader Sevilla, which plays on Sunday. A minute's silence was observed at Valencia's Mestalla Stadium to honor two Ecuadorean men who died after ETA detonated a bomb at Madrid airport's on December 30. Viana scored his first league goal for Valencia in the 51st minute after a pass from striker David Villa. The midfielder had taken advantage of Levante defender Alvaro receiving treatment off the field. Morientes added a second goal on a powerful cross by Villa in the 56th minute, and Ayala headed in Valencia's third in the 79th. In the 21st minute, Morientes missed with a header on a precise cross by David Silva. Thirteen minutes later, Levante goalkeeper Jose Francisco Molina blocked a shot by Miguel Angel Angulo. Levante almost pulled a goal back in the 72nd but Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares saved acrobatically to deny a close-range header by forward Gustavo Reggi.
