Spain among top eight seeds

Spain has been named one of eight seeds for next year's World Cup finals, football's world governing body FIFA announced today.

Spain beat off competition from England and Mexico to be named as one of eight seeds for next year's World Cup finals, football's world governing body FIFA announced today. As expected, established heavyweights Argentina, Brazil, Germany and Italy were also named as seeds by the tournament's organizing committee. The other three seeds in Saturday's draw for the 32-nation tournament will be reigning champions France and joint hosts Japan and South Korea, all of whom had already been assured of being seeded.
