Madrid:

Sevilla were held to a disappointing 1-1 away draw to Osasuna on Wednesday, in a Spanish Liga match postponed from September.

The match should have been played on September 2, but was postponed due to the sudden death of Sevilla left-back Antonio Puerta, who suffered a heart attack.

Injury-hit Sevilla needed to win in chilly Pamplona in order to end a poor run of domestic form.

But the hosts went ahead in the 19th minute thanks to a left-foot drive from Czech international Jaroslav Plasil, and Sevilla were looking shaky again.

On the half hour Sevilla midfielder Christian Poulsen pulled down Juanfran Torres for a penalty. Fortunately for the beleaguered visitors, keeper Andres Palop - their hero in last May's UEFA Cup final - saved the spot-kick from Francisco Punal.

Thus reprieved, Sevilla looked for the equalizer. It came in the second minute of the second half, when young Jesus Navas made it 1-1 after being set up from the left by Duda.

Brazil striker Luis Fabiano came close on three occasions to giving Sevilla the lead. In the third minute of injury time Duda hit the Osasuna post with one of his trademark free-kicks.

The disappointing draw leaves Sevilla 13th, with just 16 points from 14 games.

Osasuna also have 16 points now, having moved out of the relegation frame in recent weeks.
