Newly promoted Sedan kicked off their season in France's Ligue 1 with a goalless draw against Marseille at the Stade Louis Dugauguez on Sunday. Sedan had the best of the first half. Algerian striker Mansour Boutabout caught the Marseille defence square on 20 minutes and shot past goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso, but his shot hit the outside of the post. Yohan Lachor had an even better chance from a corner 14 minutes later, but the full-back's header was well saved by Carrasso. Marseille had to wait until just before half-time for their best chance of the half, Mickael Pagis just failed to get a touch to a right-wing cross from Toifilou Maoulida. Boutabout missed an almost identical chance for the home side seven minutes after the break. But Marseille were beginning to create more chances. defender Ronald Zubar had three of his own from a corner four minutes later, his first two headers were blocked, then he shot wide. Substitute Samir Nasri had a great chance to win it for the visitors in the final minute, but the midfielder shot wide of the near post. The result leaves both teams in mid-table in the first Ligue 1 table of the season. (AP)
