Luiz Filepe Scolari is a well-respected coach in international football. He coached Brazil to a win in the 2002 World Cup and he also took his current team Portugal to the finals of Euro 2004. Portugal beat Estonia 1-0 in the World Cup qualifiers held last week. The Euro 2004 runners-up lead the group 3 standings with 20 points and are almost certain to make it to the finals in Germany next year. No worries But with players like Luis Figo and Rui Costa coming to the end of their long and glorious careers, Portugal's generation next has just one representative a€" Christiano Ronaldo. But the man in charge isn't too worried. "Our young players are very good, but Rui Costa and Figo until now played very well. They have a place in the national team, but sure we have very good young talented players," said Scolari. Carlos Alberto Parreira who replaced Scolari as the coach for Brazil, has often been criticised for being a very defensive coach. But his predecessor says that Parreira is the right man to help brazil win a sixth world cup title next year. "No no, it is the same. Parreira, has the same opinion. He puts the players to attack but sometimes we need defenders. Parreira, as a coach has better tactics in defending than any other coach. He is a smart coach and Brazil are in very good condition in qualifications," said Scolari. Long time for India Big Phil as he's popularly called, also had some words of advice for Indian football. "In India, football is not the number 1 game. To make it number 1 it will take many years. Players should be good, schools and colleges should contribute, all these are minimum to reach number 1. It will take 40 years. It will not happen overnight. It is very difficult," said Scolari. Perhaps the first step for India could be to try and hire somebody like Scolari as the national coach, but then again, they probably can't afford him.
