Satisfying World Cup pangs

New Delhi:

If your appetite for football isn't satisfied with all the live World Cup action, there are plenty of options at food joints and on the internet to overcome those pangs and cravings. You could play the foosball game in McDonald's or if you prefer to stay at home, there are several football games even on the internet. Philips has launched a FIFA game where with every goal scored you get closer to winning tickets to the big event. "The response has been encouraging, but at the same time I think once the event really starts heating up, it will peak, which I expect to happen around mid June or end of June," said Shailesh Prabhu, General Manager of Philips. Meanwhile, cyber cafes in Varanasi are also getting unusually packed with football fans. "The atmosphere here is charged with World Cup Football fever. People are specially coming here as we are offering special attractions in video games for the fans," said Bunty Jaiswal, a cybercafe owner. But for the hardcore gaming fans, the Xbox 360 has launched the world cup FIFA 2006 version for about Rs 2500, while the playstation2 FIFA game costs about Rs 1300. Of course the grey market prices would suit your pocket more with FIFA CDs selling close to Rs 300 each - probably be the closest you can come to playing with the likes of Ronalidinho and Michael Owen.
