Santos beat Vasco da Gama 2-1 on Sunday to take the Brazilian championship - the second time in three years.

Santos beat Vasco da Gama 2-1 on Sunday to take the Brazilian championship - the second time in three years. Ricardinho and Elano both scored for Santos in the first half while Marco Brito scored Vasco da Gama's only goal in the second half. Santos finished first on the table with 89 points from 46 games, three points ahead of Atletico Paranaense. It was also Santos coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo's fifth Brazilian championship, leading Cruzeiro to the title in 2003, Palmeiras in 1993 and 1994, and Corinthians in 1998. (AP)
