Sao Paulo:

Two-time Brazilian champion Santos has reached a deal to sign Mexican striker Antonio De Nigris. De Nigris, who was in Brazil undergoing physical exams, was expected to sign with the Brazilian club within the next two days, Santos spokesman Aldo Neto said. "He's a speedy striker, with great scoring ability,'' Santos coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo told the Agencia Estado news service. "He'll adapt quickly to Brazilian soccer." Details on De Nigris' contract were not immediately available. The 27-year-old player was expected to be officially introduced on Monday. De Nigris, who was playing in China, had several appearances with Mexico's national squad. He is the brother of Aldo De Nigris, who currently plays for Mexico's Tigres. Santos leads the 20-team Sao Paulo state championship with 34 points from 15 matches. It has a two-point lead over rival Palmeiras with four rounds to go in the traditional competition, which it hasn't won in 22 years. (AP)
