Kolkata:
Celebrations of East Bengal's win at the ASEAN Cup have hardly died down and Indian football is already in the midst of a controversy. Organisers of the Federation Cup in Kolkata were forced to postpone the final and change the venue for a few matches after East Bengal's coach threatened to resign over the poor conditions at the Salt Lake stadium. After seeing the slushy ground conditions, some of the star players of East Bengal preferred to sit out. Coach Subhash Bhowmik was furious, blaming the All India Football Federation for ruining the game in the country. Bhowmik said that if the playing conditions in the ground did not improve sufficiently, he would not field a team for the next match. The AIFF has now decided to give the stadium a rest for the next two days. Venues of fixed Fed Cup matches have been shifted and even the final has been postponed by a day. But Indian football has to get its act right very soon if the game has to improve and flourish in the country.Topics mentioned in this article
