South Korea defeated Japan 5-3 in a penalty shootout, while China edged Syria 1-0 to advance to the finals of the Asian Youth Championship soccer tournament in Malaysia. South Korea, the defending champions of the Under-20 tournament, let in injury time equalisers to top-seeded Japan in both regular and extra time. However, the Koreans eventually prevailed to advance to Saturday's final. All four sides have already qualified for the FIFA World Youth Championship, which take place from June 2 to July 2 in the Netherlands. (AP)
