Buenos Aires:

River Plate ended a three-match losing run to ease the pressure at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires by beating Independiente three-one in the Argentinian Clausura championship. 19-year-old Colombian Radamel Falcao, who has played only a handful of first-team games, left the field in the 80th minute to a standing ovation after scoring twice, either side of the interval, after Daniel Montenegro had equalised in the 24th minute. River, who had previously won only one game after Reinaldo Merlo replaced Leonardo Astrada as coach, were in more trouble after Eduardo Bustos Montoya gave Independiente a fourth-minute lead but they came back strongly to move up to eighth - arch-rivals Boca Juniors lead the table with 20 points from nine games.
