Kuming, China:

Real Madrid continue to practice in China ahead of their first game on August 2, but before that the new coach has to make some important decisions on how to make best use of his star cast. Real Madrid's training sessions in China have had the media focussing on two players in particular, David Beckham and Luis Figo. The reason is quite clear - which one of them will play on the right? New manager Carlos Queiroz, who coached Beckham at Manchester United and Figo during his time as coach of the Portuguese youth side seems to have found a solution, with Figo already playing on the left in training sessions. The former player of the year meanwhile is doing his best to play down any talk of a rivalry with Beckham and is in fact helping him to settle in. "Everyone is trying to be as nice as possible to Beckham to help him adapt to a new life and a new club. So maybe because I speak more English, I talk a little more with him but I think all the players try to help Beckham adapt as soon as possible to a new club and a new life," said Figo. Off the field, the Real Madrid team has to focus on getting its public relations on track. The team took time out to present a jersey to the mayor of Kuming, their host town. The team has been getting its share of bad press after allegations that they are being too high-handed and inaccessible to both the fans and the officials in China.
