Real Madrid battled back from 3-1 down on aggregate to beat second division side Gimnastic Tarragon 4-3 on aggregate in a Spanish Cup fourth round, second leg match played in Madrid on Tuesday. Real Madrid fielded a full strength side including the new FIFA World Player of the Year Luis Figo in their second leg match against Gimnastic. Despite this, it was the visitors who took the lead in the second minute after Cuellar found space in the penalty area to score from ten meters. Real Madrid responded with an equaliser three minutes later when Raul headed in a cross from Zinedine Zidane, though replays seemed to indicate that Raul was off side. The second division team responded well going ahead again in the 14th minute. Herrero managed to get a touch off a Felix Prieto cross. Real Madrid fought back superbly and were ahead 3-2 by half-time, Guti and Raul scoring for the La Liga champions. Three minutes into the second half, Raul completed his hat trick as Real took a 4-2 lead. But Madrid were in trouble after goalkeeper Iker Casillas was sent off. However, Gimnastic wasted the free kick to allow Real Madrid to progress to the quarter-finals with a 4-3 aggregate win.Topics mentioned in this article
