Manchester:

Prince William paid a surprise visit to England's World Cup squad on Thursday. The 23-year-old Prince, who is second in line to the British throne after his father Charles, is the honorary president of the English Football Association. The casually dressed Prince chatted with injured striker Wayne Rooney on the sidelines. He also met Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, Captain David Beckham and the rest of the team in a huddle in the middle of a pitch at Manchester United's training ground. "I'm wishing England all the best and am 150 percent behind them as I imagine the rest of the country is," the Prince said, adding he hoped England avoided exiting the tournament on penalties. William said England winning the World Cup would be "awesome". England players were impressed with William, as he preferred to be called, with midfielder Joe Cole saying he was "very relaxed, a nice geezer" and "very down to earth". William also had lunch with the players after training and was ribbed about his support for English Premier League club Aston Villa. England plays Jamaica in a friendly at Old Trafford on Saturday in its final warmup before the World Cup. (AP)
