Toronto:

Substitute Carlos Alberta scored in the 85th minute to edge FC Porto past Liverpool 1-0 in a ChampionsWorld match at the Toronto SkyDome in Canada on Friday night. It was the first defeat of the tour for Liverpool, who were coming off a 5-1 destruction of Scottish team Celtic on Tuesday. It was Porto's first match of the tournament. Better chancesThe Portuguese side were able to create better chances early on in a match that began with a flurry. In the 11th minute Porto forward Ricardo Quaresma beat Liverpool defender Zak Whitbread before cracking a left-foot shot against the crossbar. Quaresma was denied by the goalpost yet again after a frantic scramble in front of the Liverpool goal in the 29th minute. Clinical strikePorto substitute Carlos Alberto eventually had the final say with a clinical strike in the 85th minute. After the Liverpool defence failed to clear a free kick, Alberto gathered in a loose ball at the edge of the six-yard box and fired it home to give Porto the victory in their first match of the ChampionsWorld tour. Porto goalkeeper Nuno made a fine save in the 89th minute to preserve the 1-0 win. (AP)
