Porto Alegre City:
Ponte Preta beat Internacional 2-1 in Porto Alegre on Sunday with goals from Lindomar and Andre Cunha. Elder Granja managed to get one back for the home side in the 73rd minute, but Ponte Preta held on for the win and the three points. Ponte should have scored in the seventh minute when Weldon broke down the left flank. Clemer came out of goal to cover and all Weldon had to do was pass the ball back to Julio Cesar. Instead he gambled and went for a shot, but hit the side netting, much to Cesar's understandable fury. Fernandao then had a good chance for the home side in the 19th minute, but could not latch onto a cross from the right wing. He again threatened Ponte's goal immediately after the break, only to be denied by a superb reaction save from Lauro. Ponte managed to get the ball away and a superb solo effort at the other end by Lindomar saw the visitors' get their just rewards. The goal took the wind out of Internacional's sails and a determined effort by Andre Cunha in the 70th minute gave Clemer no chance, and make it 2-0 to the visitors. That seemed to put some fire back into the home side's bellies and Elder Granja finished off a neat move three minutes later to grab a goal back. But Ponte hung on and Nene Santana's side claimed three points for the away victory. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
