Sao Paulo: Serbian midfielder Dejan Petkovic reached a deal to play for Brazil's Goias on a one-year loan from Fluminense. Petkovic, 34, was signed this week but won't be able to debut for the club for at least two weeks, Goias said on its Web site. He was injured during the final part of last year's season and will need some time to regain his form. "We expect him to be in the same physical condition as the other players in 15 or 20 days," team doctor Luciano Gualberto told the Diario da Manha newspaper in its Wednesday's editions. The player, who reportedly will earn a monthly salary of 100,000 reals, hasn't practiced for nearly 50 days. Petkovic has had a successful career in Brazil, playing for traditional clubs such as Vasco and Flamengo. He struggled with Fluminense last year, however, and the club was nearly relegated to the Brazilian league's second division. It escaped demotion only in the next-to-last round. Goias, on the other hand, was eighth in the 20-team standings. It will begin the season playing in the Brazilian Cup and the Goias state championship.
