Sao Paulo:

Parana manager Lori Sandri resigned on Monday, a day after the team was routed 4-0 and moved closer to relegation in the Brazilian league.

Sandri will be replaced by Saulo de Freitas, a former player who had managed the club in 2003. He will be the team's fifth manager this season.

Sandri commanded Parana in 10 matches, winning three, drawing one and losing six. The 4-0 defeat to Figueirense on Sunday in Florianopolis marked the team's fourth loss in five games.

With nine rounds to go, Parana is 18th in the 20-team standings with 34 points from 30 matches. The bottom four clubs will be relegated.

The team's next match is Saturday against five-time champion Flamengo in Curitiba. On Sunday, Botafogo hired Cuca to replace Mario Sergio, who quit the Rio de Janeiro club as manager only nine days after taking the job.
