Sao Paulo:

Palmeiras will stay with interim manager Marcelo Vilar until the end of the year, the four-time Brazilian league champion said on Wednesday. The club made the announcement just three days after Vilar led Palmeiras to a 3-1 victory over Brazilian league leader Sao Paulo on Sunday. Vilar took over the club last week after Tite resigned in a disagreement with club directors. Tite was upset after director Salvador Hugo Palaia said the manager was more concerned with complaining with the referees than commanding his squad. Palmeiras, which spent most of the season in relegation zone before Tite arrived, is in 13th place in the 20-team standings with 33 points from 26 matches. Vilar also served as Palmeiras' interim manager for four matches after Emerson Leao, now with Corinthians, was fired April 24. The victory over rival Sao Paulo was Vilar's only win with Palmeiras so far. Palmeiras, the 1999 Copa Libertadores champion, plays second-place Gremio next week in Porto Alegre.(AP)
