England striker Michael Owen has declared that he will be fit to play at the World Cup next month. Owen, who broke a bone in his foot in December, recently participated in two practice matches with his England teammates at their training camp in Portugal. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid forward said that he was treating his approach to the World Cup as similar to preseason training. "I've been on treadmills, bikes, and everything else for the last three months. If there was a World Cup game tomorrow, I'd be fit and in condition to play," said the England attacker. England coach Eriksson was pleased to see Owen return to action and reassured the fans about his fitness. "I'm very confident that he will be absolutely perfect for the World Cup and very, very hungry for football." Awaiting Wayne Further, Eriksson was also upbeat about the return of Owen's strike partner Wayne Rooney who was sidelined by a foot injury earlier this month and will be assessed by doctors on May 25. "I'm positive because I think he will do absolutely everything to try to get fit as soon as possible." England begins its World Cup campaign against Paraguay on June 10, and if fit, Owen and Rooney would form a lethal strike force that could take England all the way. (AP)
