Madrid:

AC Milan has reportedly failed in its bid to sign Real Madrid striker Ronaldo following negotiations between the clubs.Milan entered talks in the Spanish capital optimistic that Ronaldo would become the replacement for striker Andriy Shevchenko, who left the Italian club for Chelsea in May.However, the prospective deal foundered both on disagreement over the transfer fee and Madrid's insistence that Milan midfielder Kaka be included in the deal, sports daily Marca said on Thursday.Milan vice president Adriano Galliani and general manager Ariedo Braida are said to have offered 28.2 million dollars for the three-time FIFA Player of the Year, but the figure fell short of Madrid's asking price. The Italian club has stated that Kaka, whose arrival was promised by Madrid's new president, Ramon Calderon, during electoral campaigning, is not for sale. It is also unwilling to allow the Spanish club an option to sign the Brazilian international next year.It is unclear whether the clubs will continue negotiating, although time is running short on Ronaldo's possible move as the transfer deadline is next Thursday.Daily El Pais said Milan has already offered the striker a three-year contract on the same net salary he earns with Madrid - 7.7 million dollars. The Brazilian's current deal with Madrid is to 2008. (AP)
