Margao:

With the South Asian Federation Football tournament virtually postponed following the suspension of the game's governing body of Bangladesh, the All India Football Federation has decided to go ahead with its national league. The National Football League had been stopped after the seventh round due to the SAFF tournament, but AIFF secretary Alberto Colaco today said it cannot wait till fresh dates of the Dhaka tournament, which is scheduled to be held from January 26 to February 5, were announced. "FIFA has suspended BFF but there is no word on the SAFF Cup," Colaco said. "We had stopped NFL after the seventh round on account of SAFF Cup. But with Bangladesh Football Federation suspended and SAFF Cup unlikely to start as per schedule, we cannot wait till further date is announced," he said. "We want to finish NFL till the tenth round by January 31 as the Durand cup is scheduled for February 2 up to February 17". (PTI)
