Memories of Federation Cup final were revived on Tuesday when Goa's Dempo Sports Club beat Kolkata's Mohun Bagan in the fifth round of the National Football League. The Goan club defeated Mohun Bagan 2-0 to remain unbeaten on top of the NFL with 13 points while Bagan remain in fourth place on seven points. On December 5 last year, Dempo's Cristiano Junior had collapsed and died after colliding with Bagan's keeper.
Police security Keeping that in mind the Goa Football Association not only asked for heavy police security but also had the Rapid Action Force deployed to make sure there were no untoward incidents of violence. The incident had prompted outrage all across Goa and that forced the AIFF to appoint a special observer to monitor the security aspect for this match. "We want to win for Cristiano because we at Dempo still appreciate him. He is a big loss to the club and winning the match against Bagan will be good for us," said Anike Ogbuke, member, Dempo Sports Club.
