In the ongoing English premier league soccer championship, Newcastle United came out on top in a seven-goal thriller with Manchester United at St. James Park on Saturday. The Magpies beat the English Premier league champions 4-3. Newcastle move up into third place in the Premier League standings and can go top if they win their game in hand. United are one place back in fourth position, despite suffering their first league defeat of the season. In other premier league matches, Liverpool bounced back from two consecutive defeats in the English Premier league with a 3-1 win over local rivals Everton at Goodison Park. Southampton beat the Bolton Wanderers 1-0. In the Spanish Football League, Deportivo Coruna missed their chance to go top of the Spanish first division when they slumped to a rare 2-1 home defeat on Saturday at the hands of a disciplined Athletic Bilbao. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are still looking for their first league win of the season after a 3-1 reversal against Real Betis on Saturday.
