Neutral venue for Glasgow Rangers' tie

Dagestan:

The terrorist attack in USA isn't the only thing that has affected sports events around the world. It's also the war in Chechnya. Scottish club Glasgow Rangers' UEFA Cup tie against Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala will now be played at a neutral venue in Warsaw on September 27. It was originally supposed to be played in Dagestan in Russia.UEFA had first insisted that the Glasgow Rangers play their away tie in Dagestan. But fresh violence in the border area between Chechnya and Dagestan forced them to do a rethink. Rangers had refused to travel to Makhachkala because they believed that despite Russian promises of total security, the city was not safe.Scottish Association Chief David Taylor said, "I think that the security situation in neighbouring Chechnya is that it has been all along and I think the situation there is deteriorating and there was additional information put forward about the difficulties of getting insurance. There were further difficulties at the last minute together with concerted representations."Rangers could have been expelled from the tournament if they had refused to go to Dagestan for the match last week. But it had to be postponed anyway after the terrorist attacks in the United States. And since then two bombs went off in Makhachkala severely injuring two players. UEFA's decision hasn't been taken well by the Makhachkala, which had its stadium and everything else ready for the game.Makhachkala qualified for the UEFA cup after finishing fourth in the Russian League. They will now just play one game against Rangers at Warsaw in Poland on September 27 instead of the usual home and away tie.
