Netherlands beat Finland in World Cup qualifier

Two goals from Ruud van Nistelrooy helped the Netherlands to a 3-1 home win over Finland in a World Cup European zone, Group One qualifier on Wednesday in the Amsterdam Arena. Finland opened the scoring early on through Teemu Tainio, but two goals in two minutes near the interval turned the game around for the Dutch. The victory comes as a relief for Netherlands, who were under pressure after only drawing with Macedonia in their previous qualifier. The result leaves Finland level with Romania at the top of the group with nine points. The Finns have played five matches, one more than Romania. The Netherlands are third with seven points from three matches, a point ahead of the Czech Republic, who've also played three times. (AP)
