German soccer legend Gerd Mueller has said that the standard of the game in India is 'surprisingly good'. He also said that his side Bayern Munich had to be cautious when they begin their campaign against Mohammedan Sporting in the IFA Shield football tournament on December 2. "I am surprised that the standard of the game is very good. Teams have the stamina to play 90 minutes," said Mueller while addressing a press conference. "We need to watch out when we take the field against Mohammedan Sporting on Friday," he said. Bayern's chief coach Hermann Gerland said he was impressed with the performance of Sanjay Parte and found the match interesting. Mueller, however, said the venue Salt Lake stadium had a pitch problem. "It is slanting. But it will be terrific to play here before 1.25 lakh spectators". But the lethal striker, popularly known as 'Der Bomber' all over the world for his amazing goal-scoring skills, was all praise for the Howrah stadium ground. "The ground is very very good. Now it is winter in Germany. And the condition of this ground is better than that of the training grounds back home in Munich now," he said. Mueller said his club would not be short on motivation and display the same fighting spirit as they would have in a big tournament. (PTI)
