Lille:
Lille entertained Monaco in France's Ligue-1 on Sunday. In 13th place, Monaco sat eight places below their hosts at the start of the game as they look to kick-start their season under new coach Jean Petit. Belying their league positions, the visitors carried the greater threat in the first half - and Ernesto Javier Chevanton was unlucky not to open the scoring just before the break, when his free-kick beat the outstretched hands of Tony Sylva, but not the crossbar. However, Monaco continued to press in the second half and their efforts were rewarded on the hour mark. Sisenado Maicon's cross took a slight deflection, before being flicked on by Chevanton. Olivier Kapo's header was touched onto the post by Sylva. The ball came down well in front of the goal-line, but the spin took it back over the line, via the other post - despite the efforts of Lille defender Stephan Lichsteiner. Just the single goal was all that Monaco needed for a morale-boosting victory. The team from the principality have climbed two spots to 11th, and have not lost since Jean Petit took over the coaching duties from Didier Deschamps last month. Lille have slipped to sixth in the standings. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
