Manipur beat Orissa 3-0, Karnataka held to a 2-all draw by Tamil Nadu in the 57th National Football championship for Santosh Trophy.

Manipur beat Orissa 3-0 after leading 2-0 at half time in a group-A league match while Karnataka was held to a 2-all draw by a fighting Tamil Nadu in a group-B tie in the 57th national football championship for Santosh Trophy here today. Manipur outplayed their rivals in all departments of the game though the match failed to generate a fast paced contest. Assam's striker Tiaakum Ao put his team ahead in the 23rd minute with an accurate header off a mid-fielder Subir Goswami cross. Assam winger Birjab Moshahary then made it 2-0 in the 37th minute of a forward Dhuleshwar Rabha pass. In the 53rd minute Moshahary was again in the limelight when he converted Tiaakum Ao's pass to round off the tally. In the second match of the day, Tamil Nadu played their heart out. In fact, Tamil Nadu was sitting pretty with two first half goals and looked all set to win the match. In the very seventh minute of the match, Tamil Nadu winger E Suresh Kumar's left footer off mid-fielder M Islam back pass was bang on target. In the 30th minute, former international Sabir Pasha's header found the mark of mid-fielder Antony cros. Earlier, Sabir Pasha had shot over Suresh Kumar pass and with five minutes to go for the half time, Tamil Nadu winger K Kulothungan's try was well punched out by Karnataka custodian Balaji. In the 50th minute, Kulothungan shot over from close range and a minute later Karnataka winger Sheikh Sanjeeb narrowed the margin off substitute Saravana Lokesh pass.
