Manipur and Assam recorded comfortable victories in their last league matches to enter the quarter-finals of the 57th national football championship for Santosh Trophy here today. Assam drubbed Pondicherry 4-0 after leading 2-0 at the breather to top cluster 5, while Manipur subdued Haryana 3-0 after leading by two goals at half-time in cluster two. At the University Grounds here, Karnataka had a field day pumping in 10 goals against a hapless Daman and Diu. Karnataka's winger S Sunil and substitute Gopi scored a hat-trick each. Assam played like real champions, with their striker Tiaakum Ao drawing the first blood in the 20th minute off winger Birjab Moshahary's centre. Twelve minutes later defender Sandipan Chakravorty headed home following a free kick. Pondicherry tried their level best but failed to score due to poor finishing. Meanwhile, Assam increased their lead in the 76th minute when their substitute Pabitra Langsung latched onto a rebound and scored, after Prashanta Bharalia had tried to score. With just five minutes to go for the final hooter, Assam substitute Kamakhya Basumatary rounded off the tally. Manipur too played a fast paced game, with their mid-fielder Mangalem Jao giving them lead in the 14th minute, off forward Dharam Singh's pass. Five minutes later striker L Tiken Singh made it 2-0 off winger Nila Kumar pass. Striker Stephen Amar rounded off the tally in the 82nd minute off a Tiken Singh cross.
