Amsterdam:

Ryan Giggs scored the only goal as Manchester United beat Ajax 1-0 to clinch the preseason LG Tournament. Giggs' curling free kick in the 77th minute hit the bar before bouncing down over the line. However, the victory was marred by an injury to new signing Michael Carrick. Already missing the suspended Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney, Manchester United was dealt a huge blow when Carrick limped off in the 15th minute with a suspected groin injury. United goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar saved Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's penalty in the 60th minute following Liam Miller's foul on midfielder Hedwiges Maduro inside the box. Ajax right back Johnny Heitinga had a goal disallowed for an offside in the 35th minute. After beating Porto 3-1 on Friday, United ended the two-day tournament with 10 points. Inter was second with seven points. Organisers award an extra point for every goal to encourage attacking soccer. (AP)
